UNEP facilitates OARE training in online environment research

As scheduled, the training on the Online Access to Research in the Environment (OARE) took place today, 5 June 2007, in UNEP, Nairobi, Kenya.

46 institutions were represented at this first training. As expressed by many participants, the training was a great opportunity to discover information resources available on OARE portal.

This training was organized by Sergio Vieira de Mello United Nations Library at Nairobi to celebrate the World Environment Day (WED) that has been commemorated in Norway this year.

As the WED theme selected this year focuses on the effects that climate change is having on polar ecosystems and communities. The trainees have familiarized themselves with environmental information resources on climate change.

All the Participants have been awarded with a certificate given by Mr. Shafqat Kakakhel, Deputy Executive Director of UNEP.

Feed back from participants:

“This initiative is great and will help my institution (and others) access information to promote better management of the environment at national and community level”

“This has been a very meaningful and useful training session for our organization. Coming from a highly scientific research organization (ICRAF) I am very enthusiastic to pass on the knowledge I have gained through an in-house training exercise that we are organizing for our scientists (…)”

“This is an excellent initiative and we really appreciate, we will be able to use the information gained to empower the communities we work with and above all the communities we serve (…)”
